CarCast® Privacy Policy

  1. In the following privacy policy statement:
    1. CarCast, we, us and our means CarCast.
    2. CarCast website means this website, car.cast.co.uk.
    3. you and your means you, the end user of this website.
    4. policy means this privacy policy statement.
    5. private seller means you, if you are listing a vehicle advertisement for sale as a private individual
    6. trade seller means you and/or your organisation, if you are listing a vehicle advertisement for sale as an individual, dealer, dealership, car supermarket or other legal entity which is in the business of selling cars
  2. Different types of accounts are available on the CarCast website, all of which are free to use and sign up for:
    1. Basic User Account:
      Required in order for you to take certain actions on the CarCast website, and the basis of all other accounts.
    2. Private Seller Account:
      Required in order for you to advertise a car on the CarCast website and for you to gain access to functions on the CarCast website reserved for private sellers.
    3. Dealer Account:
      Required in order for you or your organisation advertise cars on the CarCast website and for you or your organisation to gain access to functions on the CarCast website reserved for trade sellers.
    4. Dealer Group Account:
      Required in order for you, as a representative of your organisation, to centrally manage a group of Dealer Accounts
  3. You will require a Basic User Account in order to carry out the following operations:
    1. Flagging a vehicle for the attention of CarCast staff.
  4. You will require a Private Seller Account in order to carry out the following operations:
    1. All operations covered by a Basic User Account
    2. Listing a car for sale on the CarCast website
  5. You or your organisation will require a Dealer Account in order to carry out the following operations:
    1. All operations covered by a Private Seller Account
    2. Manage and request access to Franchise Dealer features, if you are authorised to act as a Franchised Dealer
    3. Appear in the Dealer Directory
  6. You or your organisation will require a Dealer Group Account in order to carry out the following operations:
    1. All operations covered by a Basic User Account
    2. Group and manage existing Dealer Accounts of which you are able to provide proof of ownership
    3. Undertake any action authorised by the Dealer Accounts under your control, as if you were using the aforementioned individual Dealer Account
  7. When you conduct a search for specific cars advertised on the CarCast website, you have the option of supplying your postcode and a number of criteria to filter your results. We do not require you to provide your postcode or any filters in order to perform a search on our database.
  8. In order to sign up for a Basic User Account, we will require you to provide:
    1. Your Name
    2. Your Email Address
    3. Your Postcode
    4. A password to secure access to your account
  9. In order to sign up for a Private Seller Account, we will require you to provide:
    1. All information required for a Basic User Account
    2. Your full postal address
    3. Your date of birth (in order to prove your eligibility to legally act as an adult)
    4. Your contact email address
    5. At least one of your telephone numbers
  10. In order to sign up for a Dealer Account or Dealer Group Account, we will require you to provide:
    1. All information required for a Private Seller Account
    2. Contact information of your registered business address (for confirmation purposes)

Our Use of your Information

  1. CarCast is a registered trademark and trading name of Listers Group Limited. Information supplied by you will not be used for any purpose other than that which you have given us permission to use it for.
  2. You may sign up to receive our email newsletter, which may include information relating to the CarCast website, offers and services from third party companies, and any other information that we feel may be relevant and/or of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving any or all of this information at any time by using the Account Management functions on the CarCast website.
  3. We will never share your personal details with any other company or organisation, unless we are forced to, by law, or unless you give us explicit permission to do so.
  4. We have taken reasonable measure to ensure that all information held by us is stored in a secure fashion. We will never store your password in plain-text format.
  5. From time to time, we may require proof of identity before allowing you access to your personal data.
  6. You have the right to access all personal information supplied to CarCast and to rectify any errors, omissions or inaccuracies on the information held. We will charge you £10 in order to access your personal details. We cannot accept requests for your details by phone. For further details, please contact us:

  7. We reserve the right to make amendments and updates to this policy at any time. Any revisions we make to the policy will be posted to this page, so you will always be able to stay up to date with regards to the information we collect.

Use of your Personal Information on Advertisements

  1. Any telephone number you supply us in relation to an advertisement you place for your vehicle will be published alongside your vehicle, unless you specifically opt out of its display.
  2. We will not display your email address on the CarCast website. Instead, we will provide a form which users can fill out. We will forward all form submissions to your contact email address. It is your responsibility to ensure that your contact email address is correct and up-to-date.
  3. Your postcode will be used in order to calculate line-of-sight distances between vehicles that you have advertised and other users of the site who provide their postcode, for instance, so that other users can sort their results in order of proximity to their location.

Other use of information you provide us with

  1. We will never store your credit card details in your account, in our database or in any other format that would allow us to retrieve the details at any time. Your credit card details will only be used for the purpose of payment processing, after which time we will retain no record of them.
  2. Your email address will be collected and stored in order to provide you access to your account, as your username. You can request a new password by providing us with your email address. We will require proof that you own the email address by sending a confirmation email to your email address.
  3. We will use your email address:
    1. To provide users of the CarCast website the ability to contact you via car advertisements you have placed, so long as you have explicitly given us permission to do so
    2. To allow us to send you alerts from time to time regarding car advertisements you have placed, and other actions that are taken on your account
    3. To allow our systems to enable you to change your password from time to time

Cookies

  1. The CarCast website issues a cookie – a small text file containing a unique identification code which does not personally identify you – which enables our servers to recognise your computer and store settings to help you use the CarCast website more efficiently, for example:
    1. To pre-fill forms on the CarCast website with your details
    2. To remember your postcode when searching for vehicles
    3. To remember your preferred settings for sorting and displaying search results
    4. To enable us to track the use of the CarCast website through site analytics
  2. You are required to enable cookies in order to sign up for a user account and, by extension, in order to place a vehicle advertisement on the CarCast website.
